Privacy policy

Who we are

BuildMyRate (buildmyrate.com) is a free educational website run by DO Media ("we", "us"). This policy covers this site only. Questions: hello@buildmyrate.com.

The short version

• We never ask for your name, phone number, email or street address.
• Your calculator answers stay in your browser. The only exceptions are your ZIP code and state, which reach our server when you choose to request real quotes.
• When you choose to request real quotes, we pass a random referral ID, a label naming this site and page, and (unless your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track) your ZIP code to our partner.
• We do not use advertising pixels and we do not sell your personal information.

What stays on your device

The calculator saves your last build and your checklist ticks in your browser's local storage so they are still there when you come back. They never leave your device. You can clear them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Our own code sets no cookies.

What we collect

• Click-outs. Each time you choose "Request real quotes", our server creates a random referral ID and records it with the time, the page you were on, the state you picked and the first three digits of your ZIP code (none of the ZIP if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track). We use this to match the partner's reports to our pages and to count how the site is used. We keep these records for 13 months.
• Aggregate analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views and a few events (such as a click-out) without cookies and without building a profile of you across sites.
• Server logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel) processes standard request data such as IP address, browser type and the requested address to deliver and protect the site, and keeps it for a short period under its own policies. When you continue to compare quotes, that requested address includes your ZIP code (unless your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track).

When you go to our partner

"Request real quotes" takes you to SaveCubAuto at savecubauto.com, run by a separate company. The link carries the referral ID, the site and page label, and your ZIP code unless your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. Everything you enter on their form is handled under their own privacy policy (savecubauto.com/privacy/), including whether insurers, agents or marketing companies may contact you. Read their consent wording before you submit.

Your privacy choices

We honor Global Privacy Control and treat Do Not Track the same way: when your browser sends either, your ZIP code stays in your browser, so it is not passed to the partner, not stored and not in our request logs. You can ask what we hold about a referral ID, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@buildmyrate.com. Because we do not know who you are, we may ask for the approximate time of your visit to find the record.

California, Washington and other state rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct or delete personal information and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To use any right, email us; we will answer within the time the law requires and will not treat you differently for asking.

Children

The site is meant for adults shopping for their own insurance. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. Material changes will be noted on this page before they take effect.
